CUT

CUT

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) was established by law in December 2003, and enrolled its first students in September 2007. The research emphasis of CUT is reflected in the substantial funding provided to academics for the establishment of research centres and laboratories. One of the recent University’s accomplishments is the achievement of two “Strategic Infrastructure Projects”, with an average budget of 2 million euro each, funded by the Republic of Cyprus through the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and the Structural Funds of the European Union. The Remote Sensing & Geoinformatics Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology is fully equipped with the following resources: 8 GPS units with a reference station, 11 optical Leica Levels, 11 digital Leica levels, 6 Leica Rugby laser levels, distometers, laser scanner, PDA, 3 field spectro-radiometers (GER1500 & SVC 1024), 2 sun-photometers Microtops II, 1 CIEMEL sun-photometer, photogrammetric stations etc. A modern computer lab of 25 seats has been already established. A field spectroscopy lab has been already established consisting of 3 field spectro-radiometers, calibration lab (calibration sphere etc). The Lab has the APOLLO LEICA software that enables efficient management of large amount of geographical data. The following softwares have been already acquired for the lab needs: ARCVIEW, MAPINFO, ER MAPPER, ERDAS IMAGINE, AUTOCAD, MAPCIVIL, REVIT etc. The Laboratory has been involved in many research projects which includes Remote sensing techniques and GIS analysis.

NTUA

NTUA

NTUA took its present form in 1917 by special law that organized it into the Higher Schools of Civil Engineers, Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Surveying Engineers and Architecture. Up to the 1950s, NTUA was the only University in Greece offering degrees in engineering. Since then, Engineering Schools have been set up at the Universities of Thessaloniki, Patras and Thraki, and another Technical University was established at Chania in Crete. 1923: Technical Chamber of Greece.

The NTUA alumni form the core of the Technical Chamber of Greece, a very powerful professional organization that serves as the official technical advisor of the State and is responsible for awarding professional licences to all practicing engineers in Greece. Between its foundation in 1923 and 1963, the Technical Chamber of Greece had 7,800 members, while by the end of the 1980s the number of professional members reached approximately 49,000.
